Benjamin Zephaniah was born in Birmingham in the UK, and grew up in Jamaica and the UK.  He became famous in the 1980s with his powerful political poetry. He was one of the poets tht made dub poetry famous. Dub poetry is a form of performance poetry that evolved from reggae music and is sometimes performed over music.
